FAQs

Can I still keep my own GP if I see a Dr at Inner West Women’s Health?

Yes! At IWWH we would be very happy to see you regarding your sexual health and contraception and for you to continue the rest of your health care with a GP at another clinic. We will ask you if you would like to share information about test results and treatment plans with your GP or other healthcare practitioners. You can choose to have information sent to your GP and electronic Health Record or you can request to keep things confidential.

Can I switch all my health care needs to Inner West Women’s Health?

No, IWWH is a specialised clinic for sexual and reproductive health services. However, the clinic is co-located with The Leichhardt General Practice and many of our doctors also work this clinic. You can arrange an appointment at LGP as a separate appointment for your other health needs. www.leichhardtgp.com.au

Are all the doctors the same at Inner West Women’s Health?

All the doctors at IWWH are fully trained medical doctors who have a special interest in women’s health and sexual health. Different doctors have different additional qualifications and experience. Most of us love being involved in antenatal care and are experienced with cervical screening and menstrual problems. Some have a special interest in sexual dysfunction, menopause or HIV care.

Have a look at Our Doctors page and read the bios for more information on our individual interests and skills.

Are the doctors at Inner West Women’s Health gynaecologists?

No. All the doctors at IWWH are fully trained medical doctors and most are specialist general practitioners. Different doctors have different additional qualifications and experience. We work closely with local gynaecologists and will often discuss or refer patients to be seen by them if needed. However, many problems can be managed without specialist referral and having appropriate tests and examination performed before seeing the specialist can significantly reduce the costs and improve the efficiency of the visit to the gynaecologist.

Do I need a referral to see a doctor at Inner West Women’s Health?

No referral is needed to claim a Medicare rebate for seeing one of our doctors. If you have a regular GP it can be very helpful to get a letter from them if you have chronic medical conditions or have had previous surgery or tests which could be relevant to the reason for your visit to see us. You can also check the date of your last cervical screening test online on the National Cancer Screening Register or electronic health record.
