Contraception

A general contraceptive consultation can provide expert advice on the benefits, side effects and effectiveness of all options of contraception available in Australia.

All types of contraception can be provided within the clinic, including IUD insertion and contraceptive implant/Implanon insertion.

For procedures performed under sedation/anaesthetic such as vasectomy or tubal ligation (“tubes tied”) or IUD insertion if required, referral to an appropriate service is arranged.

Specific areas of practice include:

IUD insertion and removal

  • Intrauterine contraception is becoming increasingly popular in Australia for women of all ages.

  • We insert all types of IUDs currently available in Australia including the non-hormonal/Copper IUDs (Multiload, Copper TT 380) and the hormone releasing IUDs (Mirena and Kyleena).

  • Hormonal IUDs have the additional effect of reducing the amount of period bleeding which is very effective for managing heavy or painful periods.

  • If you would like to read more about the new lower progesterone Kyleena IUD device see our blog piece “What is the Kyleena and why consider it?”

Implanon insertion and removal

  • We are also able to remove ‘Jadelle’ implants inserted overseas.

Diaphragm and natural family planning advice

Some people prefer to take a more “natural” approach to contraception, we are able to explain how getting to know your body’s signs and cycle can help you to avoid (or also help) you to fall pregnant. The diaphragm is a barrier contraceptive method that can be used to prevent pregnancy without hormones. The only diaphragm currently available in Australia is the Caya Diaphragm. Getting good advice on how to use this method correctly is important to make it as effective as possible.
